It's interesting how Naugahyde has become part of pop culture.

Comedian Allan Sherman's song parody "Chim Chim Cheree" features the lines "My chair is upholstered in real Naugahyde / When they killed that Nauga, I sat down and cried!"

In addition, artists such as Al Stewart, the Monkees and Warren Zevon have all mentioned Naugahyde in their songs. What other imitation leather has gotten such recognition?!

And seeing these ads from the 1960s brings back memories for those of us who were there!

I have a naugahype cushioned 3 position manual wooden reclining chair from pre 1950. Made by The Hill Rom Co. from Indiana, this chair is beautiful. History has it that Hill Rom manufactured wooden hospital furniture in 1929. Asked local hospitals to try out their furniture in the private rooms. Everyone loved the furniture. So began Hill Rom. Naugahyde was Hill Rom's fabic of choice because nothing could hurt it. This chair still sits in my living room after my 2 hard hitting boys grew up with it. Today they fight over who is going to sit on the chair. Would love to know exactly when the chair was made. If anyone knows about it please let me know. Thanks, Connie bluessingerconnie@gmail.com

My sister had a 1960s era Ford Mustang convertible and as she was telling me how much she love it, she said "and it has real naugahide seats too"!

Never had the heart to tell her no one every shot a nauga.

Good luck.
